Take your Feline to the Doc

August 22nd is National Take Your Cat to the Vet day. Many may ask why it’s necessary to take your furry feline to the vet if they are perfectly healthy.  Just as we take our children for well visits to monitor their overall health and growth, we must do the same for our pets. Annual visits to the vet should be part of the normal routine to ensure proper health and nutrition. Certain illnesses and cancers that many not be obvious to the untrained eye could be detected by the veterinarian during these visits. Many pet owners will also have blood work done to determine a healthy base level for their pet. Doing this will allow the vet to know what the pet’s healthy levels are in order to to quickly determine what’s wrong during an illness.

Make sure to ask your vet to trim the nails and perform any other basic grooming needs that may need done. Veterinarians and their staff are sometimes able to remove mats from the cat’s hair, clean their ears, give required vaccines and address any behavior concerns that you may have. Geriatric felines should especially see a veterinarian annually to watch for dental urinary and liver functions.

Please maintain your furry loved one’s health by taking them to the vet annually. We hope your kitty will be given a clean bill of health from the veterinarian at every visit.
