Adoption Frequently Asked Questions

If you have questions about the adoption process or procedures, please reference the FAQs below. Feel free to contact us if you have questions beyond the ones found here.

What is the adoption process?

Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best match between pets and families. It includes:

  • Completing an adoption application
  • Meeting the animal
  • Speaking with our adoption team
  • Finalizing paperwork and payment

**Some adoptions may require meet-and-greets with existing pets and/or additional screening.

How much are adoption fees?

Fees vary based on age and current promotions. Please speak with our team for current pricing.

Can I place a hold on an animal?

In general, a hold cannot be placed on a pet.  The exception to this would be if we have an approved application and our adult dog must complete a meet and greet with other adult dogs in the home.  We will then pend that application for up to 24 hours pending the results of the meet and greet.

Do I need to bring my current dog to meet a new dog?

In most cases, yes. We require meet-and-greets to ensure compatibility. Our team will help facilitate safe introductions outside of the adoption center.

What if the adoption doesn’t work out?

We understand that sometimes things don’t go as planned. If it is impossible for the pet to remain in the home, they may be responsibly rehomed or returned to One of a Kind Pets per the instructions in your adoption contract.

If you need to return your pet to One of a Kind Pet Rescue, please complete the Surrender Request Form on our website. Once submitted, the form will be sent to our animal teams to facilitate the return of the pet.

Can I adopt the same day?

Often, yes! If your application is approved and all requirements are met, same-day adoptions are possible.

Do you offer trial periods?

We have a very successful Foster to Adopt program.  This applies to new intakes waiting for their spay/neuter surgery.  It may also apply to other pets who have specific needs. Visit our Become a Foster page to learn more and submit an application for consideration.

What supplies do I need before bringing my pet home?

You should have:

  • Leash, Collar, and ID tag (Required for dogs—Martingale style collar is required for specific dogs)
  • Carrier (Required for cats)
  • Appropriate food
  • Food and water bowls
  • Litter box and litter
  • Crate (recommended for dogs)
  • Bedding and toys

.

Do you offer post-adoption support?

Yes! We are here to help with questions about behavior, transition tips, and resources to help your new pet succeed.
