One of A Kind Education

The staff at One of A Kind Pet Rescue is devoted to saving lives every day. We take the calls, schedule the transports, provide intake, assess the health, place in the building or foster, create the file, schedule and provide the vetting, place on the adoption floor, photograph and assess, post on the website, promote on social media, conduct the meet & greets, finalize the adoption, and kiss them goodbye. Of course, this is a very condensed version, but it is what we do all but six days a year. Of our 62 staff members, only three do not touch animals. This system we have streamlined allows us to rescue between 4,500 and 5,000 animals each year. Our buildings provide safe housing for about 150 dogs/puppies and about about 170 cats/kittens. So how do we safely achieve the adoption number? Fosters are the answer!

At any given time, we are caring for about 500 pets, which means we have over 180 in foster at a time. This allows us to rescue even more than our buildings can hold. During the foster process, our rescue provides food, supplies, and vetting while you provide a safe, loving environment in your home. The only ask is that the foster provides transportation to and from our rescue for vaccines when necessary and transportation to the clinic for surgery day. This is a wonderful opportunity to teach school-aged children the responsibility of caring for a pet. If you are on the fence about bringing a furry friend into your home permanently, fostering would allow your family to have a trial period!

The unfortunate reality is that hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs are being killed in shelters each year simply due to the lack of space available. We save lives by pulling cats and dogs from high-intake shelters and loving them until they find their forever homes. You can be part of this life-saving mission by fostering in your home for a few weeks. You can have the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference in the world by saving the life of an animal that may be at risk.

As the warmer weather approaches, stray animals will begin to give birth under decks and sheds, in garages and abandoned buildings, and sometimes in ditches.
