One of A Kind Education

Shelter Dog Exercise

One of the most unavoidable aspects of animal rescue is frustration. Animals can experience frustration when they are unable to engage in behaviors that are natural to them. For dogs, these behaviors include chewing, running, sniffing, and digging. While we strive to do our best, we care for dozens of dogs in our facilities. The daily efforts of our staff can never match the love and attention provided in a home. To make the dogs in our care as happy as possible, we must find ways to exercise them both mentally and physically.

One of the simplest tools that can help your dog is a fence. A fence can assist with training, exercise, and even building trust between you and your dog.

We sometimes rescue from high-volume breeders, which means the animals we receive have had very limited human interaction. Being taken to a new environment filled with unfamiliar people and smells can be very frightening. Similar to humans, dogs have a fight, flight, or freeze response. Dogs that choose flight are referred to as “flight risks,” and they require special handling protocols. This is where a fence comes into play. For a flight-risk dog, going outside can be overwhelming and scary. The open space can make them feel vulnerable. A fence helps to make the outside world feel less daunting by providing a barrier against sounds and external stimuli.

Fences can also be used for fun! We are fortunate to have volunteers who dedicate their time to socialize our dogs with one another. However, with so many dogs running and playing in our yard, our fencing has sustained some damage. Fortunately, the amazing team at Acme Fence stepped in to provide a much-needed update! They have gone above and beyond by offering you a special deal: $250 OFF your purchase of any new Acmeresidential fence! To take advantage of this offer, please visit the link here. We sincerely thank Acme Fence for helping us keep our animals both active and safe with our new fencing.
