One of A Kind Education

Building a Community of Caring

A new year is upon us, and we have wasted no time in moving forward with our goals. Our work was slowed a bit in 2020 due to the COVID-19 shut down and regulations, but with a new year, a new vaccine, and safety measures in place, we hope to make up for lost time. The final numbers are in, and we have rescued, healed, and rehomed 3,784 pets in 2020. This averages out to 315 pets per month. Though the statistic is a bit low due to the pandemic, we are gaining momentum for 2021 and moving onward and upward!

Our vision at One of A Kind is to create and sustain a no-kill community, where all adoptable pets live in loving homes. In 2019, over 7,321 total pets were killed in Ohio. In California alone, about 100,000 adoptable pets were killed that same year. The goal is that by 2025, no adoptable pet will be killed in any state (BestFriends.org). Through rescue and education, we feel that this goal can indeed be reached, though we cannot do it alone.

Pet homelessness is a problem that must be addressed by all members of a community. Many citizens pay tax dollars that support the operations of their county animal control facility and dog warden. The fewer homeless pets there are in a community, the fewer tax dollars are necessary to support the problem. For this reason alone, everyone should come together to help end pet homelessness. This can be done by spaying and neutering your pets and local feral cats. Adopt, donate, foster, or volunteer at your local rescue to support their efforts. Kindly educate those around you with this vision and build a community of caring. We can all resolve to do better in 2021.
