One of A Kind Education

“What’s New Pussycat?”

Do you remember the song “What’s New Pussycat?” Though Tom Jones was referring to his love interest in this 1966 classic, we here at One of A Kind Pets are more interested in the love interests between actual kitty cats this time of year, and how their love for one another directly affects our rescue and clinic.

Prior to my employment with One of A Kind Pet Rescue, I didn’t realize that there was an actual “kitten season.” I had been around cats and kittens my entire life, even raising and rehoming several litters while growing up on my small family farm. But it never actually occurred to me that cats mate and reproduce primarily during the warm weather months. And do they ever! I still don’t understand why cats were created to reproduce at the rate and quantity that they do, but since we have no control over that, let’s focus on the things we can control.

With warm weather approaching, spaying and neutering not only your pet kitties, but also community feral cats is the only way to begin controlling the overwhelming cat population. Occasionally, our house pets will escape on us, and should that happen, we want to ensure they are protected against the Tom Jones kitties of the community looking for a girl or boyfriend! Additionally, these feral community cats are reproducing on their own at alarming rates! Our adoption center receives thousands of phone calls each week during the warm weather months, asking us to take in kittens that have been born outdoors. Though we try our hardest, we can’t possibly rescue all that we are asked. Thankfully, our spay & neuter clinic is now open to the public, and this is how we can help.

Our feral cat package is $42 and includes the Spay or Neuter surgery, rabies vaccine & ear-tip. The ear-tip is the universally accepted method to identify a spayed or neutered and vaccinated Feral Cat. On occasion special prices are available, please contact our Clinic for more information. Feral Cats can be brought to the Clinic in humane box traps (must be 12″x 12″x 36″ – smaller traps will not be accepted). Drop off is Monday -Thursday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Please, do not arrive prior to 9:00 am. No appointment is required. Cats are picked up following day between 1:00-5:00 pm.

We are also able to schedule spay & neuter surgeries for your pets. Please do so by emailing our front desk at Scheduling@Oneofakindpets.com. Since we are still in the beginning stages of reopening, our phones are not yet active.

Thank you so much for helping us with our mission of controlling the unwanted pet population in our communities.
