One of A Kind Education

Every Pet Needs an ID

According to the American Humane Society, 10 million pets go missing in the U.S. every year. Sadly, only 15 percent of dogs and 2 percent of cats without tags or microchips are reunited with their families.

When you leave a shelter or adoption center your pet should have on a collar and an ID. These furry friends have not bonded with you, and leaving their existing environment can be very stressful and scary – their first reaction might be to flee. Be sure to have your name, address, and two phone numbers on the ID and, if your pet is microchipped the words “scan me for a chip.”

Why microchip? If your pets collar falls off, his/her tags are useless. Microchipping is a permanent means of identifying your pet. A micropchip is a small capsule about the size of a grain of rice that is inserted under the skin near the shoulder blades. When the microchip is scanned it reads your contact information.

All pets rescued by One of A Kind Pet Rescue are microchipped prior to being adopted. This is a routine procedure that is performed to assure their safety and well-being.

Always, be sure that your contact information is up-to-date so that if your pet should get lost, you can be found. Be sure your pets microchip is registered in order to give you the best chances of getting your pet back.
