How Does Fostering Work?

One of A Kind Pet Rescue has a robust foster program that’s growing every week. You may have seen our request for foster help on social media. Fostering is important to our business and crucial for us to save as many pets as possible.

Most rescues either have a brick and mortar facility or are foster based. A brick and mortar facility allows the rescue to house and care for animals prior to placing them in permanent homes. A foster based program relies on others to open their homes to a pet temporarily until a permanent home can be found. Though the policies can fluctuate from one rescue to another, in most cases, the rescue provides the food and supplies necessary to care for the pet while being fostered. One of A Kind Pet Rescue is a combination of both brick and mortar and foster care.

Our facilities are capable of holding hundreds of kittens, cats, puppies and dogs. Unfortunately, due to the fact that there are still thousands of homeless pets in our surrounding areas, it is not enough. We have to turn homeless pets away if our facilities are at capacity, but we can save a lot more pets if we have fosters willing and available to care for those we would otherwise turn away. Our goal is to continue building our foster program so we can rescue even more pets.

We currently have a successful foster program and foster coordinators who are able to assist those willing to foster. What we need are more people willing to take on this important responsibility. One of A Kind Pet Rescue provides the food, any necessary medical needs and most of the supplies necessary. The foster is expected to provide a climate controlled, safe environment for the pet, as well as transportation to and from our rescue and clinic. In some cases, family pets already in the home will need to be kept separate from the foster pets for the first two weeks. The commitment is typically between 2-4 weeks, but can fluctuate depending on the needs of each specific animal.

If fostering is something you feel you may be interested in helping with, please do not hesitate to contact us. You may call the rescue at 330-865-6200 or call/text our foster coordinators directly at 330-858-9049. Together, we can work to solve the problem of pet homelessness.
