It’s A Cheap Shot

It’s National Immunization Awareness Month and we must not forget our furry loved ones! This is a perfect opportunity to remind everyone to get the appropriate vaccines for their cats and dogs. As a pet owner, it is crucial to know when and why your pets need their routine immunizations and preventions. We are here to fill you in!

Most pets only require the core vaccines. For dogs, those vaccines consist of distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis and rabies. For cats, the vaccines are feline distemper, panleukopenia, calicivirus, rhinotracheitis and rabies. The rabies vaccine, which can be administered in a single-year or multiyear dose, is required by law. Fortunately, your pet doesn’t have to receive so many individual injections as combination vaccines are available to cover most of these.

Be aware that your pet may experience mild reactions. Usually, it’s just sleepiness or mild tenderness at the injection site, requiring no action. In rare circumstances, your pet may experience an allergic reaction such as severe swelling. With any severe reaction or change in behavior, a veterinarian should be seen.

On the first Saturday of each month, our Spay & Neuter Clinic holds a vaccine clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No appointment is necessary! We provide the vaccinations mentioned above as well as heartworm testing/prevention and flea/tick prevention. Our vaccine clinic is offered at a discounted rate compared to most veterinarian’s offices (we don’t charge an office-visit fee). Please do not hesitate to maintain a proper vaccine schedule for your pet!
