Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

The American Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has named October “Adopt a Shelter Dog” month. Millions of dogs enter shelters each year waiting to be adopted into their forever homes. This month is especially unique for One of A Kind Pet Rescue, because this year we’ve taken in an additional 53 dogs who require medical treatment, beyond our typical 150-185 dogs each month. Obviously, we can’t stress enough how important “Adopt a Shelter Dog” month is to our organization.
According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.3 million dogs enter shelters every year. When these abandoned and often abused animals find their way to us, each one needs a forever home. It can take a shelter/rescue dog a full three months to realize that their home is permanent and they are loved. No matter the breed, size or demeanor of the dog, we will take the time to find the right home for our rescued pets. This is the reason we insist all adoptions occur in person at our adoption center and have multiple procedures in place to promote healthy adoptions for families and individuals.
Donations and volunteers are always welcome, and we encourage them. Since we’ve increased the number of dogs rescued this month by 30%, we need your support now more than ever! During Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, we encourage everyone to visit, volunteer, donate and adopt! Most dogs love to be walked, played with and loved, even if they haven’t found their forever home. Some of our rescues require some extra time to fully trust new people. Every moment they spend socializing increases their opportunity for adoption. It truly makes a difference to each and every dog in our care, and it makes a difference to us as well.
