One of A Kind Education

We often get asked how One of a Kind Pet Rescue is funded and how individuals can help us financially through donations. One of a Kind Pet Rescue is a nonprofit founded in 2005. The organization is dedicated to saving animal lives, rescuing pets in imminent danger of euthanasia, spaying/neutering and adoption of homeless dogs and cats into appropriate, loving homes. We are a no-time-limit shelter, and no adoptable animal is euthanized.

The adoption fees we charge help to reimburse us for the spay and neutering of our dogs and cats, their medical care, food, and to compensate 55 employees. We also rely heavily on a corps of volunteers. However, our expenses are more than double the income that we bring in from our adoption fees and clinic services each year. We have to make up that difference by relying on the generous donations of our supporters and on grants.

We rescue animals from shelters and puppy mills and strays/surrenders if space allows. When we do that, some animals are perfectly healthy. But sometimes the animals are not. We often have unexpected medical costs once they are with us. Additionally, we have several animals abandoned at our doorstep in need of care. Each year, we have more than $200,000 in unexpected medical costs for these animals. This is what sets One of A Kind apart from other societies and rescue groups. We treat everything that is treatable.

Volunteer at the Rescue
We have the best volunteers! Come join us! We need volunteers to sit and play with cats, cuddle with puppies, walk dogs, join our dog playgroup, or help us clean around the rescue’s Adoption Center and Clinic. We also have fund-raising events where we could use help. You’ll need to attend a volunteer orientation and an extra orientation if you’d like to walk dogs and then you can come when your schedule allows! Check out our volunteer page for more information.
