One of A Kind Education

The Numbers Are In!

After all the calculations are done, the final number of adoptions to take place at One of A Kind Pet Rescue in 2021 was 4,184. Even those of us who are in the thick of it day after day are surprised and impressed by this number. Allow us to put things into perspective a bit.

When the pandemic began in 2020 and most of the country shut down for four months, fear and uncertainty rang through the halls of One of A Kind. Our team was forced into restructuring our processes to allow us to continue our rescue/adoption efforts through fostering. Our team managed to instantly expand our foster program and continue placing pets into loving homes through a completely different, socially distanced, yet effective process. We were closed for four months in 2020 but our rescue and adoption efforts were not hindered.

The start of 2021 (and the vaccine) brought new hope to a new year and people began to get back to normal activities. However, 2021 brought new challenges to our organization with the labor crisis that struck our entire nation. We’ve all seen the signs at our favorite fast-food restaurants and coffee shops that read, “We will be closing at noon due to staffing issues.” However, we cannot do that! We have animals to care for. These cats and dogs rely on us every hour of the day for their food, water, medications, and exercise. Our leadership team kicked it into high gear to ensure all tasks were completed and all pets were cared for. Our clinic closed in July due to staffing issues and we were forced to outsource our vetting. Though this was extremely challenging and expensive for us to endure, we did it. We found a way to make it work by transporting our pets to other clinics for their services. Our clinic is now vetting our own rescues again and we hope to open to the public again very soon.

What One of A Kind Pet Rescue has done over the past two years is overcome adversity. We have proven not only to ourselves, but to our supporters and the pets who need us that we are resilient. Though we have had so many challenges thrown at us over the past two years, we have not faltered in our focus to save pets in imminent danger. We are in our sixteenth year of operations, and we are growing stronger through the faces of adversity. We could not do this without the love and dedication of our followers and supporters, and for that we are eternally grateful.
